Prep Softball: Roy scores late runs to top Bountiful in Region 5

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful scored once in the bottom of the first inning, but Roy scored twice in the sixth to grab a 2-1 road win Tuesday in Region 5 action.

Ana Palmer had two hits to lead the Royals. Dashani Purcell and Ashlee McPhearson led the Braves with two hits apiece.

Maysa Averett picked up the win for Roy in the pitchers’ duel, throwing the complete seven innings and striking out five. McHailee Danner pitched six innings with four strikeouts for Bountiful and took the hard-luck loss.

LAYTON 12, WEBER 0

LAYTON — Jackie Gold gave up two hits and struck out six Warriors in a five-inning, complete-game shutout, and Layton erupted for eight runs in the third inning on the way to a Region 1 win over Weber.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Weber, but was moved due to field conditions in Pleasant View.

CLEARFIELD 6, FREMONT 3

CLEARFIELD — Macy Benincosa hit two solo home runs as Clearfield opened Region 1 with a win over Fremont. Madilyn Martindale hit a home run in a fourth inning when the Falcons took a 4-1 lead.

Jessie Golder went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks for Clearfield. Braxtyn Hanes pitched six innings for the Falcons, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven.

Kynlee Hoggan went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Fremont and Carlie Peterson went 1-for-1 with an RBI.

DAVIS 15, NORTHRIDGE 1

LAYTON — Maggie Miller pounded four hits, including three doubles, and Davis scored seven runs in the top of the third in a win at Northridge to open Region 1 play.

Laura Baird and Kya Wilmott each had three hits, and Sid Eyre hit a three-run home run for Davis.

Northridge scored in the second inning when Jessica Petersen crushed a solo home run.

WOODS CROSS 11, VIEWMONT 9

WOODS CROSS — Woods Cross took an 11-5 lead into the top of the seventh inning and held off a Viewmont rally to claim the Region 5 opener.

Autumn Johnson went 2-for-2 with two doubles, five RBIs and two walks to lead Woods Cross. Sadie Bevan and Julana Te'o each went 2-for-3 with a walk, and Te’o had an RBI.

No Viewmont information was provided.

SYRACUSE 7, RIVERTON 4

SYRACUSE — Syracuse sent all nine batters to the plate in the first inning, scored four runs and held off Riverton for its second win of the year (2-4).

The Titans had seven consecutive batters reach base in the first inning, and were led by Fallyn Marshall’s 2-for-4, two-RBI day.

Ashtyn Bauerle also went 2-for-4 at the plate and Kemir Curtis went 3-for-4.

BEAR RIVER 11, MOUNTAIN CREST 0

GARLAND — Mercedes Call pitched a six-inning shutout, allowing three hits with four strikeouts as Bear River thumped Mountain Crest.

The Bears scored three runs in the first inning, three runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth. Ashley Hess went 3-for-4 with two doubles and six RBIs, Oaklee Trapp went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Bailey Theurer went 2-for-4.
